Restoring databases

Restore databases from the Database Inventory view of the Backup database. Restoring a database invokes the Restore server task.

About this task

The Database Inventory view includes a document for each database currently backed up. Each document includes basic information about the database and its last backup time.

Complete the following steps to restore a database from backup. A common reason to restore a database is to restore documents that users inadvertently delete, but you can also restore an entire database.

Procedure

  1. Open the Backup database and select the Database Inventory view.
  2. Select the document for the database that you want to restore.
  3. Click Restore to open the Restore Job document.
  4. Complete the fields as desired. The following list of fields is not complete but are the most important ones. Note that the only required field is Selected backup.
    Field Description
    Restore path
The path on the server to restore the database to. The default value is controlled by the Global Configuration document. To restore a deleted database to its original location, leave this field blank.
Note: The restore path should be within the data directory. If a database is restored outside of the data directory, its DBIID used for transaction logging changes and the previous transaction logs become invalid and a new database backup is then required.
    Restore time select

Select a time range within which you want to restore the database. Also select the time zone of the user who deleted them. When you use this field, the Selected backup field then automatically picks the most recent backup prior to this time range.

Selected backup Select the backup to use to restore the database, if you did not use the Restore time select field to select it automatically. Note that this is the only field required to restore a database.
Recover point in time Select Enable to specify a point in time from the last full backup from which to recover a database using transaction log files.
Recovery time When Recover point in time is enabled, select a transaction log file created subsequent to the selected backup to use for the restore. Select the box next to this field to automatically select the most recent transaction log file created subsequent to the selected backup.
    Recover no activation
Restore retention time Specify a date to remove the replica of the restored database from the backup server. If not specified, the Default retention store days value in the Global Configuration document is used.
Disable replication When enabled, disables replication of the restored database. This option is enabled by default.
Restore folders/docs If you use these options, deleted documents and folders are also restored directly into the original database, in addition to the restored database. (Note that documents in a Trash folder are not treated as deleted). Select Folders to restore only folders into the original database, select Docs to restore documents without folders into the original database, select Folders&Docs to restore both folders and documents into the original database.
    Doc restore folder

To restore deleted documents and folders to a new folder in the original database in addition to their original location in the original database, specify a folder here. This option makes it easy for users to see which documents have been restored.

If you click the button next to the field, the folder is named according to the Default restore Notes folder setting in the Global Configuration document and appended with the current time.

Time range from, Time range until

By default, all deleted documents and folders found in the backup are restored. Use these fields to restore only documents and folders deleted within a specific time range. If you specify only part of the time range, the other part stays unlimited.

  5. Click Submit Restore to restore the database.
  6. Wait for Backup to process the restore request or click the Run Restore Server Cmd action.
