Example: Using point-in-time restore of deleted documents

This example demonstrates using point-in-time restore to recover deleted documents and restore them into the original database.

In this example, a user asks you to recover documents that they deleted from their mail file and that are no longer in the Trash folder. The user knows approximately when they deleted the documents. To make things easy for the user, you restore the deleted documents to their original location in the user's mail file. You also put the deleted documents in a new folder in the original mail file so that the user can see easily which documents have been restored.

You configure the restore job document as follows:
Field Description
Restore path

You specify the default restore path on the Backup server, the restore folder in the data directory. This field is required. The entire mail file will be restored to the Backup server.

Restore time select

The user tells you they think they deleted the documents on about September 12 at 4:00 PM, India time. You select that date and time and because you are in New York, you also select GMT+05:30 as the time zone to match the user time zone.

Selected backup You select the box next to this field to automatically select the last full database backup done prior to September 12 at 4:00 PM.
Recover point in time You select Enable.
Recovery time You select the box next to this field to automatically select the most recent transaction log file created subsequent to the full database backup.
Disable replication To prevent the original mail file and the mail file restored to the restore folder from replicating, you keep the default option Enable selected.
Restore folders/docs You select Folders&Docs to restore both deleted folders and deleted documents into the original database.
Doc restore folder

This field specifies a new folder in which to copy deleted documents and folders to the original mail file in addition to restoring them to their original locations. You click the button next to this field to automatically name the folder based on the value specified in the Default restore Notes folder field in the Global Configuration document and to append the name with the current time.

Time range from, Time range until

By default, all deleted documents and folders (deletion stubs) found in the backup are restored. Use these fields to restore only documents and folders deleted within a specific time range, to limit the search. If you specify only part of the time range, the other part stays unlimited.
