Enabling third-party restore

You can integrate the Domino backup database with a third-party restore application to leverage the Domino backup database user-friendly restore interface.

About this task

All of the restore operations available with Domino-integrated restore are available for third-party restore, for example, the ability to disable replication, change replica ID, and restore documents and folders.

The main difference from the Domino-integrated backup and restore functionality is that the backup inventory is not stored in the dominobackup.nsf database. Therefore the third-party application restore operation handles locating the database and restoring it point in time rather than the administrator doing this step through the user interface.

A CMD formula configuration is recommended for third-party restore because it allows the use of any field from the restore request document rather than just the selected parameters in the standard CMD integration.

To switch to 3rd party restore mode, open the Global Configuration and enable the option Restore 3rd party. To restore a database, you select the 3rd Party Restore button from the Database Inventory view, rather than select a database in the inventory document. The important differences for a third-party restore is you specify the original path of the database manually in a Path name field, since there is no database backup inventory.

After a database is restored, you can optionally invoke DAOS restore. DAOS restore requires a separate restore configuration that leverages the file restore command line operations from a third-party backup provider.
