Using Rational Team Concert with DevOps Code ClearCase UCM

You can integrate UCM activities with Jazz Team Server work items by using the integration between IBM® ClearTeam® Explorer and Rational® Team Concert.

Before you begin

ClearTeam Explorer must be installed into the same Eclipse shell as your installation of Rational Team Concert.

About this task

You can use the integration between ClearTeam Explorer and Rational Team Concert to associate DevOps Code ClearCase® UCM activities with Jazz Team Server work items. When using ClearTeam Explorer version 8.0.0.2 (or later) with Rational Team Concert version 4.0 (or later), users can specify work items to associate with UCM activities when performing various ClearCase operations, such as check in, check out, add to source control, move, rename, remove, and merge search. In the dialog boxes for these ClearCase operations, such as the Check in dialog box, there is a set of options including Select Activity, New, and Find. The first time you associate a UCM activity with a work item, you can click New to create a new Jazz Team Server work item using the Rational Team Concert Create Work Item dialog box or you can click Find to select an existing an existing Jazz Team Server work item using the Rational Team Concert Select Work Item dialog box.

An association between a ClearTeam Explorer UCM activity and a Jazz Team Server work item is made automatically any time a new activity is created in the integrated environment. The integration prompts you to specify the associations between activities and work items when needed. You can also create or remove these associations manually. Note that work items can be associated with multiple UCM activities and UCM activities can be associated with multiple work items.

The operation of the ClearTeam Explorer UCM connection with Rational Team Concert is controlled by preferences in Eclipse. The integration is active when the Windows -> Preferences -> Team -> IBM ClearTeam Explorer -> ClearTeam Explorer -> Enable associations between UCM activities and an external Task Provider plug-in option is selected. The integration is deactivated when this option is cleared.

When the Enable associations between UCM activities and an external Task Provider plug-in preference option is selected, you can also use Eclipse preferences to specify whether the associations between UCM activities and Jazz Team Server work items are mandatory or optional.

When the Windows -> Preferences -> Team -> IBM ClearTeam Explorer -> ClearTeam Explorer -> Display tasks instead of activities in UCM views, when task associations are required option is selected, Rational Team Concert work items appear instead of UCM activities in the UCM toolbar, My Activities, and in the activity selectors on ClearTeam Explorer dialog boxes.

You can view the associated UCM activities and work items from the context of either the UCM activity or the Rational Team Concert work item.

When the integration is active, some ClearTeam Explorer operations (such Rename, Move, or Remove) may cause a refactoring process to occur in Eclipse. When a refactoring process occurs and the activity is associated with multiple work items, you may be prompted to select or create a specific work item to associate with the refactoring process.
