Configure IBM Common Licensing

Use IBM Common Licensing, powered by FLEXlm, to manage ClearCase® licenses on supported Windows, Linux, and UNIX platforms.

You can use IBM Common Licensing to manage floating licenses and token licenses which are available with DevOps Code ClearCase version 7.1.2 and later. With token licensing, you must purchase the token licenses from IBM. When a feature in a Rational offering with token-based licensing is checked out, the FEATURE line in the license file specifies the number of tokens that are checked out. Token licenses can be used only with floating licenses. They cannot be used for authorized-user licenses. For more details about token licensing, contact your local IBM® marketing representative.

Note: IBM Common Licensing by FLEXlm is not supported on Linux™ S/390®, Linux on System z®, and Linux PPC platforms. On HP IA-64 platforms, ClearCase supports IBM Common Licensing on ClearCase version 7.1 and later. For information about configuring licensing in cases where IBM Common Licensing is not supported, see Configure ClearCase Licensing.

Managing licenses with IBM Common Licensing requires you to set up the IBM License server. On Windows systems, you must also install the License Key Administrator (LKAD) application.

Note: IBM Common Licensing is not available to customers using ClearCase when it is provided by HCL. You can use IBM Common Licensing if ClearCase is provided by IBM.
Installing the IBM Common License Server software on Windows, Linux, and UNIX systems

To manage licensing for DevOps Code ClearCase, install a supported version of the IBM Common Licensing Server. To determine which version to install, see the ClearCase system requirements for the ClearCase components you are installing. Information about installing and configuring the server and client licensing software is available in the IBM Common Licensing documentation.

Information applies to Windows systems Installing or upgrading IBM License Key Administrator client software
On Windows platforms, install a supported version of the IBM License Key Administrator on DevOps Code ClearCase clients to manage licenses.
If you are upgrading from a previous version of DevOps Code ClearCase and LKAD is already installed, review the following information about upgrading
  • Starting with DevOps Code ClearCase version 7.1.2, the License Key Administrator (LKAD) is not installed in the C:\Program Files\IBM\DevOps\Code\ClearCase\common folder with DevOps Code ClearCase. LKAD is installed in to the C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalRLKS folder by default.
  • The license server is automatically upgraded when you upgrade from DevOps Code ClearCase from version 7.1.2 or later. If you are upgrading from earlier versions of DevOps Code ClearCase, you must upgrade the license server manually. If you do not upgrade, users with version 7.1.2 or later cannot contact the license server. You can also use IBM Common Licensing version 9.x to manage licenses for DevOps Code ClearCase version 7.1.1 and earlier.
