ClearTeam Explorer installation planning

Install the ClearTeam® Explorer web client to access and modify resources under DevOps Code ClearCase® source control through dynamic views or web views.

ClearTeam Explorer can be used to access:
  • Dynamic views, when DevOps Code ClearCase is installed on the client machine. A format of the client is installed as part of the DevOps Code ClearCase installation. Other formats can be installed separately when required.
  • Web views from the ClearCase Remote Client, when you have access to a CCRC WAN server.
The ClearTeam Explorer technology is packaged in three formats:
  • ClearTeam Explorer, a standalone self-contained application
    • Installed (and updated) using IBM® Installation Manager
    • Installed as part of the DevOps Code ClearCase client install
    • Installed separately on client machines without DevOps Code ClearCase, for ClearCase Remote Client use.
    • Optionally integrates with supported versions of Microsoft Visual Studio
  • ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse, which integrates ClearTeam Explorer functionality into Eclipse. This is installed (or updated) using Eclipse Update from an update site available on a CCRC WAN server
  • ClearTeam Explorer Extension, which integrates ClearTeam Explorer functionality into Rational® Software Delivery Platform products such as Rational Team Concert, WebSphere® Application Developer, and Rational Software Architect. This is installed (and updated) using IBM Installation Manager.

Upgrading CM Server to CCRC WAN server

If you are upgrading from ClearCase version 7.x to version 8.0.x or later, you must upgrade from the CM Server feature to the CCRC WAN server feature. Starting in ClearCase version 8.0, the CM server feature was replaced by the CCRC WAN server. The CCRC WAN server provides remote clients with access to remote repositories and support for local views. The server must be installed during product installation by selecting the CCRC WAN server feature.

The CCRC WAN server is also required for the installation of ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse, even if the client will be used only to access dynamic views. In this case, the server hosts an Eclipse update site that is used for client installation, but is not needed subsequently.

Upgrading ClearCase Remote Client to ClearTeam Explorer

If you have a previous version of the ClearCase Remote Client supported by the CM Server, you must upgrade your hosts to support the new CCRC WAN server. You must have the new server to use ClearTeam Explorer web views. The new server is not required to use ClearTeam Explorer dynamic views.

After completing the server upgrade, you can use ClearTeam Explorer, which is installed as part of the client installation. Alternatively, you can install or upgrade to a version that is integrated with Eclipse or a Rational Software Delivery Platform product such as Rational Team Concert™.

Planning for ClearTeam Explorer or ClearTeam Explorer Extension installation

You must set up a shared location from which users can access and install ClearTeam Explorer. The remote client and the Extension are provided as IBM Installation Manager offerings that are separate from the ClearCase offering. The shared location setup for the ClearTeam Explorer offerings requires the same steps as the shared location setup for DevOps Code ClearCase: preparing shared locations for an enterprise deployment.

After shared locations are set up, users can install or update the ClearTeam Explorer or ClearTeam Explorer Extension.

The ClearTeam Explorer is installed or upgraded as part of the install or upgrade to DevOps Code ClearCase version 9.0.1. Users of web views on computers without a DevOps Code ClearCase installation must install or upgrade ClearTeam Explorer separately.

Planning for ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse installation

When you install DevOps Code ClearCase with the CCRC WAN server, an update site is installed on the server machine. To install the ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse, users access this update site using the Eclipse Update Manager in Eclipse.
