Migrating data from IBM Connections 4.5 or 5.0 databases to 5.5

Migrate data from your IBM® Connections 4.5 or 5.0 databases and update the schemas to the most recent IBM Connections 5.5 level.

Note: If your version of IBM Connections™ is earlier than version 4.5 (for example, version 3.0 or 4.0), you must first migrate to version 4.5 and then you migrate to version 5.5.
To migrate your data, you can choose from two different strategies:
Create new 4.5 or 5.0 databases on a separate system, update them to the most recent 5.0 level, and transfer your existing 4.5 or 5.0 data to that system. Then update the new databases to version 5.5. This strategy requires more time and resources than an in-place migration but means that you can test the update while you continue to use your older databases. For more information, refer to Migrating data side-by-side.
Instead of migrating your 4.5 or 5.0 data, update the databases to the most recent 5.5 level on the same system as the earlier version. This strategy saves time and hardware resources. For more information, refer to Migrating 4.5 or 5.0 data in-place.
Note: You can update databases with the IBM Connections database wizard or with the SQL scripts and Java™ migration utility that are provided with the product.
