Installing EditLive! for AIX, Linux, and UNIX

You can optionally install the AIX, Linux, or UNIX version of EditLive! for IBM Connections to use instead of the default rich text editor delivered with Connections.

Before you begin

If upgrading, ensure that the Common.ear application has been shut down.

Procedure

  1. Make note of the location of the IBM Connections Customizations directory.
Edit Live! for IBM Connections installer needs to be provided with the location of your IBM Connections Customization path. The value for this is provided by the CONNECTIONS_CUSTOMIZATION_PATH variable within the WebSphere Application Server. For more information on IBM Connections customizations and the CONNECTIONS_CUSTOMIZATION_PATH, see the IBM® Connections documentation on customizations.
Note: The EditLive! for IBM Connections installer only requires the root customizations directory as provided by this variable.
  2. Make note of the location of the IBM Connections Web Resources Provisioning directory.
The EditLive! for IBM Connections installer needs to be provided with the path to your Web Resources Provisioning directory, for example:
    /opt/ibm/Connections/data/shared/provision/webresources/
This folder allows extensions for Connections to be installed. For information on locating the IBM Connections Web Resources Provisioning directory, refer to Extending JavaScript in IBM Connections.
  3. Run the Install script.
The installation script, install.sh, is located in the CN80PML.zip included in the e-image that you downloaded from Passport Advantage. This script can be executed from any AIX, UNIX, OS X or LINUX environment that has SSH access to the IBM Connections server.
Note: It is best to set up SSH key access to this server, and use a local SSH agent to avoid password prompts when logging in via SSH. The script makes numerous connections and each one will prompt for a password if SSH keys are not used.
To install the EditLive! for IBM Connections, execute the install.sh script as follows:
    ./install.sh USER@HOSTNAME CUSTOMIZATIONS_DIR WEBRESOURCES_DIR
This script requires the following parameters:
    • USER The user name to use for SSH access to the IBM Connections server. This user must have write access to both the Customizations directory and the Web Resources Provisioning directory.
    • HOSTNAME The host name for the IBM Connections server. If running the script on the same machine that the integration is to be installed on, localhost should be used.
    • CUSTOMIZATIONS_DIR The exact value of the CONNECTIONS_CUSTOMIZATION_PATH variable.
    • WEBRESOURCES_DIR The location of the Web Resources Provisioning directory.
Note: This script automatically performs a backup of any existing configuration in the CONNECTIONS_CUSTOMIZATION_PATH/javascript/ephox/editlive/connections directory. The backup will be contained in a sub-directory of editlive. This ensures previously customized configuration is not overwritten by accident. If you do not want a backup to be created, run the install script with the optional --no-backup parameter, for example:
    install.sh --no-backup USER@HOSTNAME CUSTOMIZATIONS_DIR WEBRESOURCES_DIR
Any existing copy of the Edit Live! for IBM Connections in the Web Resources Provisioning directory is not be backed up regardless of whether --no-backup is used.
  4. Update the IBM Connections Cache.
Once EditLive! for IBM Connections has been deployed, the IBM Connections server must be notified of the changes.
    1. The cache must be cleared to ensure users download the new files from the server. To update the IBM Connections' server cache, perform the steps outlined by the IBM Connections Post-Customization documentation.
    2. The Common enterprise application needs to be restarted.
  5. Verify that EditLive! for IBM Connections has installed correctly by navigating to the following URL in any web browser: http://<your server here>/connections/resources/web/ephox.ephoxeditors.connections/verify.html. If the installation has been successful, a confirmation message will be displayed alongside installed version numbers.
