Installing EditLive! for Windows

You can optionally install the Windows version of EditLive! for IBM Connections to use instead of the default rich text editor delivered with Connections.

Before you begin

If upgrading, ensure that the Common.ear application has been shut down.

Procedure

  1. Make note of the location of the IBM Connections Customizations directory.
    The Ephox editors for IBM Connections installer needs to be provided with the location of your IBM Connections Customization path. The value for this is provided by the CONNECTIONS_CUSTOMIZATION_PATH variable within WebSphere Application Server. For more information on IBM Connections customizations and the CONNECTIONS_CUSTOMIZATION_PATH see the IBM Connections documentation on customizations.
    Note: The Ephox editors for IBM Connections installer only requires the root customizations directory as provided by this variable.
  2. Make note of the location of the IBM Connections Web Resources Provisioning directory.
    The Ephox editors for IBM Connections installer needs to be provided with the path to your Web Resources Provisioning directory, for example:
    C:\IBM\Connections\data\shared\provision\webresources
    This folder allows extensions for Connections to be installed. For information on locating the IBM Connections Web Resources Provisioning directory, refer to Extending JavaScript in IBM Connections.
  3. Run the install.exe Installer executable.
    The installer executable, install.exe, is located in the CN80PML.zip included in the e-image that you downloaded from Passport Advantage.
    Note: The installer may require System Administrator privileges. If prompted, click Yes.
    Installation steps are as follows:
    1. Click Next on the introduction screen.
    2. When prompted, review the license agreement and select I accept the agreement.
    3. Provide the paths noted in steps 1 and 2 to their relevant box, then click Next to proceed.
      Note: Default paths are initially provided.
    4. Review the installation details, then click Install to begin installing files.
    5. Allow the installation process to finish, then click Finish to complete the installation.
  4. Update the IBM Connections Cache.
    Once Ephox editors for IBM Connections has been deployed, the IBM Connections server must be notified of the changes.
    1. Clear the cache to ensure users download the new files from the server. To update the IBM Connections' server cache, perform the steps outlined by the IBM Connections Post-Customization documentation.
    2. Restart the Common enterprise application.
  5. Verify that all Epoxy editor services have installed correctly by navigating to the following URL in any web browser: http://<your server and port>/connections/resources/web/ephox.editors.connections/verify.HTML.
    If the installation has been successful, a confirmation message appears alongside installed version numbers.
