Changing the state of a record

You can change the state of a record as the record moves through a life cycle, from submission through resolution, based on the schema design.

Procedure

To change the state of a record from the Query Results view:
  1. Right-click the record, click Change State, and select the desired state.
    The action menu shows only those actions that can be performed on the record in its current state. The list of actions available might also be affected by your permissions.
  2. Change the state of the record. If you must provide information to change the state, a window opens in which to enter information about the record. After you provide that information, click OK to save the state change. In some cases, the state of the record changes without any additional activity.

Results

To change the state of a record from the Record Details view:
  1. Double-click a record in the Query Results view so that its details appear in the Record Details view.
  2. In the Record Details view, click the Change State menu on the toolbar and select the desired state.

Example

A submitted defect must be assigned to a developer before work on the defect begins. This example shows how you can assign a defect record.
  1. Locate the submitted defect record in the Query Results view, right-click it, and click Change State > Assign.
  2. In the Assign window, select an owner for the defect and click OK. The new owner information is saved, and the state of the defect is changed to Assigned.
