Create a bundle item in Sterling Business Center

An item of the type bundle is a collection of items, such as products or provided services.

About this task

The inventory for a bundle is maintained at the individual component level. For example, a video game with a set of games DVDs can be a bundle item. This collection can be sold as a single item, and you can maintain the inventory of both the video game and the DVDs individually.
Note: Although you can provide inventory tags to a bundle, these tags are ignored by the Sterling Order Management.

You can create a bundle when you want to logically group items together and maintain the inventory for these items individually.

You can create a bundle item from the Create Item screen.

To create a bundle item:

Procedure

  1. Go to the Create Item screen. To go to the Create Item screen, do the following steps:
    1. Log on to Sterling Business Center as an Item Administrator.
    2. The screen shows the application home page. Click the Products tab.
    3. From the Products home page, click New Item in the Catalog dashlet.
      The Create Itemscreen shows.
  2. In the Create Item screen, do the following steps:
    1. Click the Bundle radio button.
    2. In the Item ID* text box, enter the unique identifier for the item.
    3. From the UOM list, click the unit of measure that you want to associate with the item.
Note: The combination of a unit of measure and an item ID is unique. For example, if you sell the same item with the same item ID from a node in the United States and a node in Canada, and the United States uses pounds as the unit of measure and Canada uses kilograms, the two different units of measure associated with the item ID creates two unique items in the system.
    4. To associate this item to a category, click the Search icon in the Associate to the category box.
    5. The Category dialog box shows. From the Catalog Hierarchy tree, click the category of the maintenance catalog to which you want to associate the item, and click Select.
The item is associated to the selected category.
  3. Click Save.
Note: * indicates that the field is mandatory.

A new item is created, and the Primary Information screen shows.

After an item is created, it is a good practice to define the item description in the Primary Information screen. You can use this item description as a search criterion when you are doing an item search.
