For IBM i OS operating systemWindowsAIXLinuxSolaris Preparing application servers for use with WebSphere Commerce

If you will install WebSphere Commerce by using the silent installation method, prepare WebSphere Application Server for use with WebSphere Commerce.

SolarisLinuxAIXWindowsNotes:
  • If you want to use WebSphere Application Server Base, ensure that you preinstall it before you install WebSphere Commerce.
  • If you want to use WebSphere Application Server Base and IBM HTTP Server 7.0, ensure that WebSphere Application Server Base is at 7.0.0.3 or later.
  • If you want to install WebSphere Commerce 64-bit, you must install 64-bit WebSphere Application Server and 64-bit DB2 before you install WebSphere Commerce Version 7.
Ensure that your WebSphere Commerce search heap size is configured according to the size of your catalog data or if your environment contains multiple indexes for different languages. For example, if you are having issues with accessing large amounts of index data, increase the default heapsize to a larger value such as 1280.
    Important:
    • Using large heap sizes in WebSphere Commerce search, for example, those more than 4 GB in size, require a 64-bit installation of Apache Solr. That is, for example, if you intend to increase the heap size to values greater than 1280, ensure that you install the 64-bit version of Apache Solr.
    • Do not exceed 28 GB of heap size per JVM, even when using a 64-bit environment. In a 64-bit JVM, there is an address compressed reference optimization feature that might be disabled if the heap space exceeds 28 GB, which results in up to a 30% overall throughput degradation.

Procedure

Do one of the following tasks before you install WebSphere Commerce:
  • Ensure that you have the minimum required level of WebSphere Application Server (7.0.0.3), plus any required WebSphere Application Server interim fixes. Use the WebSphere Application Server DVD provided with WebSphere Commerce to update the fixes on your WebSphere Application Server (and upgrade to 7.0.0.3).
To update your existing WebSphere Application Server with the required fixes:
    1. Disable any active antivirus software, otherwise the update installer might not be able to update files during the update procedure.
    2. On the machine where WebSphere Application Server is installed, go to the location of the WebSphere Application Server DVD image.
    3. Start a command prompt.
    4. Change directories to the \disk2\WAS\ directory on the installation image.
    5. WindowsRun the install.exe command.
    6. SolarisLinuxAIXRun the ./install command with a WebSphere Commerce non-root user. To create the WebSphere Commerce non-root user, see AIXCreating WebSphere Commerce users and groups LinuxCreating WebSphere Commerce users and groups SolarisCreating WebSphere Commerce users and groups.
    7. Select your WebSphere Application Server.
    8. Select Apply maintenance and add feature.
    9. Select your WebSphere Application Server installation directory. Click Next.
    10. When the update installation wizard finishes, click Finish.
  • Exceed the minimum WebSphere Application Server requirements.
