Comparing a version with its predecessor

You can compare a version with its immediate predecessor to find the differences.

About this task

You may need to compare versions of a file or directory when you need to reconcile conflicting changes made by members of a team.

To compare a file version with its predecessor:

Procedure

  1. Connect to the VersionVault server, if you are not connected already.
Expand the My Views node in the VersionVault Navigator, right-click on the view called yourname_tut_view and click Connect. In the WAN dialog box, fill in the connection details, and click OK.
Note: You can also select the view and click the connect to ClearCase icon (Connect to VersionVault Server) button in the toolbar or you can select Connect from the VersionVault menu. In addition, if you are not connected to a VersionVault server and you perform an action that requires such a connection, the WAN dialog box appears automatically.
  2. In the VersionVault Navigator, navigate to the docs directory under the yourname_tutorial directory.
  3. In the VersionVault Details view, right-click readme.txt and click Compare with Predecessor.
  4. Click the Compare with Predecessor button in the toolbar.
Note: You can also select the file and click the compare with predecessor icon (Comapare with Predecessor) button in the toolbar or you can select Actions -> Compare with Predecessor from the VersionVault menu.

Results

The Diff Merge window displays the version selected by your view and the predecessor version. Each difference is indicated by an icon at the left of the pane. You can use the navigation buttons in the toolbar to move between differences.
