Installing Packaging Utility

Use IBM® Packaging Utility to copy a product package.

Before you begin

To download the Packaging Utility installation files, go to the HCL Software License & Download Portal.
Installation Manager considerations:
  • You cannot use the Packaging Utility to install Installation Manager. You must have Installation Manager installed on the local computer to use a repository created by Packaging Utility.
  • If Installation Manager is not already installed, it is installed when Packaging Utility is installed. The installation files for Installation Manager are included with the installation files for Packaging Utility.
  • You can also install Packaging Utility by adding the disktag.inf file as a repository in Installation Manager. The disktag.inf file is located in:
    • Windows: pu.disk_platform.zip\disk_platform\InstallerImage_platform
    • Linux and UNIX: pu.disk_platform.zip/disk_platform/InstallerImage_platform
See the Repository preference topic in the Installation Manager documentation for information about adding a repository.
Stand-alone Packaging Utility considerations:
  • You can run a stand-alone version of Packaging Utility that does not require installation.
  • If you install Packaging Utility by completing this task instead of using the stand-alone version, you can use Installation Manager to update Packaging Utility.

Procedure

To install Packaging Utility:
  1. Download the Packaging Utility installation files for your platform.
  2. Extract the Packaging Utility installation package from the compressed file, pu.disk_platform.zip.
  3. Open the directory containing the executable file.
    • Windows: pu.disk_platform.zip\disk_platform\InstallerImage_platform
    • Linux and UNIX: pu.disk_platform.zip/disk_platform/InstallerImage_platform
  4. Run the install command:
    • Windows: install.exe
    • Linux and UNIX: ./install
Important: On Windows, use install.exe for installations that use the graphical user interface (GUI). Use installc.exe for silent installations. The install.exe command is not supported for silent installations.
  5. Complete the Install wizard to install the Packaging Utility. If Installation Manager is not already installed, both Installation Manager and Packaging Utility are installed together.
You can accept or modify the default values for the different directories.
Attention: You can specify the Shared Resources directory only the first time that you install a package. For best results, select the drive that has the most available space to ensure adequate space for the shared resources of future packages. You cannot change the location of the Shared Resources directory unless you uninstall all packages.
