Content references in templates

Unica Deliver supports inserting content into email or landing page templates by reference with the custom HTML tag <UAEreferenceLabel>. You can reference digital assets in the Deliver Content Library (such as an image or HTML snippet) that are assigned a content reference label.

To add content elements by reference, add the <UAEreferenceLabel> tag directly in the body of the communication template. You can use the <UAEreferenceLabel> tag in templates for HTML email, text-only email, and for personalized landing pages that are hosted by Unica.

The <UAEreferenceLabel> tag includes a content reference label that is assigned to a particular content element in the Content Library. You configure the reference label as a property of the content element. You specify the reference label as an attribute of the <UAEreferenceLabel> tag when you add the tag to a template.

When you preview or publish an email document, Deliver replaces the <UAEreferenceLabel> tag with the content it points to. To make the substitution, the content must be available in the Content Library and properly identified with a content reference label.

You can add content references to communication templates with the embedded graphical editor that is available for editing templates in the Message Editor. When you add content references with the embedded editor, you can define or overwrite content reference labels for the digital asset that you want to reference. This feature is available only when you edit a template with the embedded editor.
