Adding or editing rules with the Text Editor

The Rule Editor provides a text-only mode, called the Text editor, to create personalization rules by manually entering or editing rule elements.

Procedure

  1. In the Message Editor, select the content element that you want to conditionalize.
  2. Open the Rule Editor and select Text editor in the Editor type field. Use any of the following methods to access the Rule Editor.
    • In a zone, display the content, right-click, and select Edit Rule.
    • Open the Personalized content window for a zone, select a content element, click Edit Rule icon in the Personalized content window or click the link, click to add a rule.
    • In the Rules Spreadsheet, right-click in the Rule column and select Rule Editor.
  3. Enter the rule elements.
    1. Enter a personalization field.
    2. Enter a comparison operator.
    3. Enter an appropriate value.
    4. Create groups, as necessary. Use parentheses to define groups and sub-groups.
    5. Enter logical operators to establish the required relationships between conditions or groups.
    At any time, you can click the validate icon Validate icon for Rule Editor to validate the rule. Deliver validates the rule when you save it.
  4. Click OK to validate and save the rule.

What to do next

The Rule Editor provides a content selector that you can use to select other content elements within the same zone. For zones that contain multiple content elements, this is a convenient way to quickly configure personalization rules for all of the content in the zone.
