Configuring message encryption on Android devices

How do I... Action
Default to signing and/or encryption on new messages and replies?
  1. Check "Sign messages that I send" and "Encrypt messages that I send" as desired.

Choose between using Notes and S/MIME encryption?
  1. Select “Default Encryption Type” and choose the preferred encryption type.

Note: This setting is only enabled once at least one S/MIME credential has been added for use with HCL Verse for Android.
Note: This setting is changed to S/MIME automatically when an S/MIME credential is added.
Note: It is not possible to switch between Notes and S/MIME encryption on a per-message basis.
Manage the S/MIME Credentials?
  1. Select “Choose S/MIME Credential”.

  2. Click “Add Credential” at the bottom of the screen to choose the S/MIME p12 credential file to install.

  3. Enter the password for the p12 file and then give it a user-friendly name to refer to it later, if needed.

  4. After the credential is added, tap on the star to select the credential to use for signing outgoing messages.
Note: When receiving an S/MIME encrypted message, all credentials will be considered for decryption.
View the collected S/MIME Certificates?
  1. Select “Collected S/MIME Certificates”.

  2. A list of the collected S/MIME certificates will be displayed.

Note: There is no reason to actively manage this list, but the delete icon can be used if needed to delete one of the collected S/MIME certificates if needed.
Note: The primary mechanism for gathering S/MIME certificates for use in S/MIME encryption is the collection of the S/MIME certificates from received S/MIME signed emails, but they can also be added via the “Add Certificate” button on this panel. PEM formatted certificates can be added via this action.
