What's new in Verse on Android

The following features are new in Verse 12.0.x on Android:

Visualization Update for Account Header Avatars With Initials: HCL Verse for Android now generates unique Avatar visualizations with initials for Account Header that is displayed on the navigation drawer of each of the HCL Verse for Android applications.

12.0.25

Visualization Update for People Avatars With Initials: HCL Verse for Android now generates unique Avatar visualizations with initials for people in the Mail, Actions, Calendar, and People applications if no photo is available. The initials generated match the HCL Verse Web design based on the person's display name or email address, otherwise a default Avatar will be displayed.

Mail Compose UI Update : HCL Verse for Android email composition - for a new email, a Reply/Reply All or a Forward - now displays the From field including the current user's email address.

User experience improvements for the Settings UI : HCL Verse for Android has updated the Settings UI to include the Accounts header at the top of the screen. All Settings screen action bars are updated to include the current account email address. The Settings UI is also expanded to dual pane on foldables and tablets running Android 12.1 and above.

User experience updates for Notifications: HCL Verse for Android now includes the user's email address as a subtext on all of the notifications.

Navigation Drawer Header Re-design: HCL Verse for Android now includes a simplified navigation drawer header design with the user's profile picture along with the display name, email address, and last sync status.

Synchronization status simplification: HCL Verse for Android now includes the synchronization status in the navigation drawer and a newer spinner is displayed on manual synchronization requests to track the status of the request.

Improved Application Navigation Experience: HCL Verse for Android now includes a navigation drawer for all its applications. To open it, click the navigation icon in the top left or swipe in from the left. The calendar application uses the new navigation drawer to transition between calendar views and the calendar inbox. HCL Verse now also supports specific features of Android 13. The features include an updated photo picker, a user prompt notification for permissions and warnings about limited capabilities when the user is in Restricted battery mode.

Improved Mail Search Capabilities: HCL Verse for Android now supports filtered search by folder (including the Sent folder), a more extensive search of mail bodies, and improved search results that include results from the Outbox and Drafts folders. Support for viewing rich text descriptions in calendar notices and events: HCL Verse Android now displays rich text descriptions, attachments, and embedded images of calendar notices and rich text descriptions for calendar events. If remote images are included the user will be prompted to allow or deny the remote image display when opening the calendar notice or event. Embedded images are not currently supported in calendar events and may display an empty box in the place of any such embedded images at this time. Removal of support for connecting to unverified hosts: HCL Verse for Android has completely removed support for SSL connections that fail hostname verification. Clients will fail to connect to the Traveler server endpoint until the SSL certificate is properly configured. Removal of support for Android 6: Due to the lack of on-going security updates from Google, HCL Verse Android is no longer supporting devices running Android 6.

Mail routing between Domino and domains with Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs): Verse Android can send and receive mail from non-Domino mail users who use internationalized domain names (IDNs) in their email addresses. This feature requires HCL Traveler Server 12.0.1 or higher. In addition, the HCL Domino SMTP servers that route inbound and outbound mail also must be running HCL Domino 12.0.1 or higher. Removal of HTTP Support: HCL Verse Android no longer supports insecure (HTTP) communication with the HCL Traveler server.

  • Forward Calendar Notices Support: HCL Verse Android now supports forwarding of calendar notices via email.

    A “Forward” action now appears in the overflow menu when viewing calendar notices allowing users to generate a new email from the calendar notice containing the calendar notice details.

  • Attachment Handling Improvements: As part of the transition to Android’s Scoped Storage framework, HCL Verse has simplified its attachment handling to directly “Export” attachments to the “Downloads” folder of the device, when requested by the user.

Forward Calendar Events Support: HCL Verse Android now supports forwarding calendar events via email.
  • A “Forward” action now appears in the overflow menu when viewing calendar events. This allows users to generate a new email from the calendar event containing the calendar event details.
    Note: Only downloaded calendar attachments are included in the forwarded calendar events.

  • Personal Group Support: HCL Verse Android now supports synchronization of Personal Groups and the ability to create, edit, and delete personal groups on the device. For more information, see Enabling the synchronization of personal groups.
  • MaaS360 SDK Update: HCL Verse now includes the 7.50 version of the MaaS360 SDK.

  • Mail Hyperlink Verification: HCL Verse Android now supports long-pressing email and web links in email bodies to preview the URL that will be launched to verify the security of URLs prior to launching them.
  • SSL Host Verification Warning Dialog: A warning dialog displays to the user daily if they connect to a Traveler server (or proxy server) where the SSL certificate was not issued to that server. For more information, see this article.

  • Domino SAML Authentication: HCL Verse Android now supports federated-identity authentication using Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML). This allows mobile users to authenticate to a customer’s identity provider prior to accessing the HCL Traveler services. For more information, see Mobile client support for SAML authentication.
  • Domino TOTP Authentication: HCL Domino 12.0.0 supports requiring a Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP), which is in addition to their user names and passwords for http authentication. For more information, see Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) authentication. HCL Verse Android now supports the Traveler server endpoint configured for TOTP authentication.
  • Synchronization Error User Notification Improvements: Support has been added to notify the user about synchronization config errors, such as exceeding the mail server quota, via a dialog or notification, along with logging these messages to the user log file.
