IBM® Sametime® consists of a variety of servers and clients, and can be deployed to suit many different environments. The deployment instructions are organized by feature set, beginning with the minimum components that are necessary to support instant messaging, and then expanding the deployment to include features such as audio and video support, and conferencing.

Clients in a local IBM® Sametime® community can communicate with users in other communities through the Sametime Gateway.

Install one or more IBM® Sametime® Gateway Servers. Read the system requirements to ensure that you know the minimum supported software requirements.
Choosing an installation method for a Sametime® Gateway Server
Install an IBM® Sametime® Gateway Server. This section provides procedures for installing a single server and installing a cluster of servers. When installing a cluster, you install a deployment manager server, SIP and XMPP proxy servers, a primary server, and at least one additional server on its own computer. You can install the primary server and deployment manager on the same computer, or each on its own computer. For better performance, install the SIP and XMPP proxy servers on their own computer; however, they can share a computer with other components of the cluster if necessary.

When starting a cluster for the first time, you must start the deployment manager, node agents, and XMPP proxy server first. Then start all Sametime® Gateway Servers in the cluster.

Procedure

Log into the IBM® WebSphere® Integrated Solutions Console on the deployment manager server as the WebSphere administrator.
Click Servers > Application Servers.
Stop a server: select the application server's check box and click Stop.
Start a server: select the application server's check box and click Start.
