Using the Import Wizard with applications created on IBM® Bluemix

An Import Wizard is provided in Domino® Designer that lets you import XPages Starter Code applications to the Designer workspace.

This wizard is part of the functionality and tooling available in Domino® Designer to provide the infrastructure needed to modify, configure, and deploy XPages applications to and from Bluemix. The Import Wizard imports an XPages Starter Code project (.ZIP file) downloaded from the Start Coding page that appears when you create an XPages boilerplate starter application on Bluemix.

To open the wizard, select Tools >Import IBM Bluemix Starter Code from the Designer menu bar.

Import Wizard usage example

As mentioned, the Import Wizard imports an XPages Starter Code project (.ZIP file) downloaded from the Start Coding page that appears when you create an XPages boilerplate starter application on Bluemix. The steps outlined next are provided as an example of how you would typically use this wizard.

  1. Create an XPages boilerplate starter application on Bluemix.
  2. From the Bluemix dashboard, click your application after it is created.
  3. In the left navigation bar, click Start Coding.
  4. From the How do you want to start coding? section, select CF Command Line interface.
  5. Click Download Starter Code and save the starter code compressed file to a local directory.
  6. Switch to the user ID supplied by the XPages NoSQL Database service (refer to the Bluemix documentation for more details).
  7. Add your Bluemix credentials to Designer to use Designer's built-in Bluemix tooling. This is done by providing your Bluemix credentials on the Domino® Designer IBM® Bluemix Preferences panel (refer to the related topic in this section for more detail).
  8. Use the Import Wizard to import your starter application to Domino® Designer by selecting Tools > Import IBM Bluemix Starter Code. The Bluemix Starter Code Import Wizard opens.
  9. Click Browse and select the downloaded starter code zip file
  10. Click Open.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Click Browse and create a new folder. This directory will be used to deploy your application to Bluemix and must be empty.
  13. Click Next. Select the organization and space where you created the starter application on Bluemix and click Finish. The boilerplate NSF is imported to your Designer workspace and linked to the deployment directory that you specified in the Import wizard.
  14. Modify your application as needed and deploy to Bluemix when finished. (refer to the Bluemix documentation for more details).
