Bluemix Features available in Domino® Designer

XPages technology is now available in Bluemix in an effort to bring the IBM® Domino® programming model to applications created in Bluemix. Functionality and tooling is available in Domino® Designer to provide the infrastructure needed to modify, configure, and deploy XPages applications to and from Bluemix.

The main features include the following:

  • A new preference page has been added where the Bluemix Server connection can be defined. To open the Bluemix preferences, select File > Preferences then Domino Designer >IBM Bluemix.
  • An import wizard has been provided to import Bluemix XPages Starter Code applications to the Designer workspace. To open the wizard, select Tools >Import IBM Bluemix Starter Code.
  • Existing XPages applications can be configured for deployment to Bluemix using the new Bluemix Configuration Wizard. To open the wizard, select Design >IBM Bluemix >Configure For Deployment or use the dropdown menu associated with the Bluemix toolbar button. Alternatively, you can right-click on the application in the Applications Navigator and use the IBM Bluemix >Configure For Deployment popup menu.
  • A new editor has been provided that lets you change the Bluemix parameters associated which each application. To open the editor, select IBM Bluemix Manifest under the Application Configuration category in the Applications Navigator.
  • When an application has been imported using the Import Wizard or configured using the Configuration Wizard, it can then be deployed to Bluemix. To deploy your application with Domino® Designer, select Design >IBM Bluemix >Deploy Application, click the Bluemix toolbar button or right-click on the application in the Applications Navigator and use the IBM Bluemix >Deploy Application popup menu.
  • When an XPages application has been deployed to Bluemix it can be opened in the Default Browser for viewing. To open in the browser, select Design >IBM Bluemix >Open in Default System Browser or use the dropdown menu associated with the Bluemix toolbar button. Alternatively, you can right-click on the application in the Applications Navigator and use the IBM Bluemix->Open in Default System Browser popup menu. Individual XPages can be opened by selecting them in the Applications Navigator and then using the method above.

This section provides topics that describe each of these features with its related tooling in more detail and demonstrates how to use Designer and Bluemix both as related tools for application development.
