Configuration Wizard
You installed your HCL Digital Experience software. Now let the Configuration Wizard guide you through configuring your system. To begin, select a configuration option and provide basic input about your environment. Based on this information, the Configuration Wizard provides you with examples, recommended values, customized instructions, and scripts that you can run.
Running the configuration
You are ready to configure the target system. There are several options available to you when you create your customized instructions.

To begin, select a configuration option and provide basic input about your environment.         Set up a stand-alone server
        You created a stand-alone, demonstration environment with IBM Installation Manager. Now you are ready to change your demonstration environment into a production-ready, distributed stand-alone server environment. To begin, you can use the Database Transfer option to transfer your database from the default database, Apache Derby, to a more robust database. After your data is transferred, you can change from the built-in file-based repository to a federated repository. Then, you can choose to modify your site URLs for search engine optimization benefits.
        Set up a cluster
        You created a stand-alone, demonstration environment with IBM Installation Manager. Now you are ready to set up a production-ready, clustered environment. To begin, you can use the Database Transfer option to transfer your database from the default database, Apache Derby, to a more robust database. Then, you can create your deployment manager profile, create a static or dynamic cluster, change from the built-in file-based repository to a federated repository, modify your site URLs for search engine optimization benefits, and add more nodes as needed.
        Migrate to a New Version
        Update your current environment by migrating to the latest version of HCL Digital Experience. With migration, you install the new version of a product alongside of the earlier version and then copy data from the earlier version to the new version. Your goal is to create a new environment that is identical to the earlier environment.
        Add on new capability
        You do not have to wait until the next release to add on new features to your installed Exceptional Digital Experience software. From the Modify option, you can add HCL Web Content Manager to your portal installation, and use the Solution Installer to distribute Portal Application Archive applications to your environment.
        Reusable wizard selections
        You can upload saved settings from a previous configuration to save time in customizing your values for this configuration. The Configuration Wizard provides you with an XML file with configuration settings when a workflow is created for download. This XML file contains environment information, preferences, information about your configuration goals, property values, and parameter values. If you saved your settings during a previous configuration, upload this XML file now.
        Running the configuration
        You are ready to configure the target system. There are several options available to you when you create your customized instructions.
        Download wizard selections
        Download your wizard selections to save time customizing your values when you set up multiple, similar environments.
        Download configuration scripts
        Choose to download the configuration scripts if you plan to run the scripts instead of completing the steps from the wizard, or if you need to run these steps on a remote system.
        Configuring a remote server to receive workflows
        The configuration wizard provides you with the option of sending your customized workflow to a remote server.
  - Installing
    HCL Digital Experience provides flexible deployment options that range from proof-of-concept where you can examine and test functionality to a highly available and scalable production environment. Review the planning information to learn more about hardware and software requirements, high availability, scalability, supported topologies, and much more. Select your operating system and then select the installation pattern that most reflects your business needs.
  - Configuring
    Run the following tasks after you install and deploy HCL Digital Experience. They address tasks that are typically run one time and have a global effect. Some configuration changes are made more frequently or do not have a global effect. These tasks are addressed in the Administering section.
  - Backup and restore
    Backup and recovery of data files and databases is an essential operation for any business system, particularly for data and applications that run in production environments. Create and follow a plan for backing up and recovering data on all tiers of your HCL Digital Experience deployment. IBM Installation Manager must also be included in backup and recovery planning. If you back up the HCL Portal file structure and then install a fix pack, your HCL Digital Experience and IBM Installation Manager become out of sync after you restore the HCL Portal file system. This condition is not recoverable.
  - Migrating
    Successful migration requires significant planning and preparation, understanding the tools that are involved, and careful execution of the appropriate steps in the order provided.
  - Integrating
    Integrate HCL Digital Experience with software such as HCL Sametime to enable your users to collaborate more easily. You can also use the unified task list portlet to integrate HCL with your backend business process software, such as IBM Process Server.
  - Administering
    Use the administration tools that are provided with the portal to do various day-to-day administration tasks. There are two methods for editing portal setup: using the administration portlets or the XML configuration interface. The administration portlets are a convenient way to make real-time updates to the portal's configuration. While the XML configuration interface is suited to more advanced administration, including batch processing of updates.
  - Securing
    Security tasks include setting up property extension databases and custom user repositories, configuring and activating SSL, and configuring authentication. In addition, tasks such as activating Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) and NIST SP800-131a security modules and configuring external security managers such as Security Access Manager might be required to secure your portal environment.
  - Monitoring
    HCL Portal includes tools and features to help you monitor the portal site.
  - Setting up a website
    Setting up a website includes, creating pages, adding navigation, setting up search, and adding content to the site. Themes are used to customize the portal's look-and-feel. Out-of-the-box templates and the site wizard can help you set up your portal site faster. You can add wikis and blogs to your site and let users tag and rate content on your site.
  - Staging to production
    During portal solution development, the solution is initially developed, tested, and refined on one server or a limited number of servers. The solution is deployed later on live systems, referred to as the production environment. The process of moving the solution from the development environment to the production environment is called staging.

    This section includes developer documentation on extending applications and development assets for HCL Portal and HCL Web Content Manager.

    This section helps you resolve problems, use diagnostic tools and tracing to capture HCL Digital Experience system errors.

Configuration Wizard: Running the configuration | HCL Digital Experience

You are ready to configure the target system. There are several options available to you when you create your customized instructions.

Start configuration

Click Start Configuration to start your configuration. The steps automatically start running on the system that you are currently connected to until a manual step is encountered. When the configuration encounters a manual step, it pauses and you can select Instructions for Step to view the details that are required.

While you run the configuration, you can open and view the running log for the current step.

Reset steps

Resetting the steps is helpful when you encounter a failed step. However, if you reset the status of your steps, you do not roll back any configuration that has already occurred.

Cancel

You cannot cancel a running configuration. Before you start the configuration, you can click Cancel to start the process over. However, if you decide to cancel, you lose all of your wizard selections, and you return to the home page of the wizard.

Change values

You can change values before you start a configuration:

Click Cancel. By clicking Cancel, you lose your wizard selections and return to the home page of the wizard to start over.
Click to return to the Answer Questions and Customize Values screens, where you can change customized values or parameters to create new instructions.

Click Back and Next to move back or forward in the configuration wizard.

Next steps

Next steps instructions are available when you complete your configuration. If you download the scripts, the next steps instructions are available as the last step in the HTML instruction file. If you run the steps by using the Configuration Wizard, the next steps instructions display as a message when all steps are marked as complete and you click Finished.
