Installing BIRT web archive on WebSphere Application Server

This topic describes how to install the BIRT web archive on the WebSphere® Application Server.

Before you begin

HCL Compass supports only a subset of the available releases of the Business and Intelligence and Reporting tools (BIRT) reports. Download the BIRT runtime archive suitable for use with Java/J2EE applications from the BIRT project page available at http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/. Extract the contents of the archive to a temporary directory.

Procedure

  1. From a web browser, go to the WebSphere Integrated Solutions Console URL access the web page:
    http://server_host:port/hcl/console/login.do
    Where port is the port for the WebSphere Application Server profile. If WebSphere was installed in a new profile directory, the default port is 12060. If it was installed in the default WebSphere profile, the admin port is 9060.

    You can also find the configured port in the profile information file <WAS installation directory>/profiles/logs/AboutThisProfile.txt.

  2. Select Applications -> Application Types -> WebSphere enterprise applications.
  3. Click Install.
  4. From the Preparing for the application installation page, click Browse and go to the directory containing the BIRT web archive file (birt.war) that you downloaded and extracted from the BIRT project page as described in the Before your begin prerequisites for this procedure.
  5. Click Next.
  6. From the Preparing for the application installation page, click Next.
  7. From the Select installation options page, click Next.
  8. From the Map modules to servers page, select Eclipse BIRT Report Viewer. Then, click Next.
  9. From the Map virtual hosts for Web modules page, select Eclipse BIRT Report Viewer. Then, click Next.
  10. From the Map context roots for Web modules page, type the context root /birt. Then, click Next.
  11. From the Summary page, review the settings. Then, click Finish.
  12. After successful deployment, click Save to save changes to the master configuration.
