Moving a schema repository by using vendor database tools

You can use tools provided by the database vendor to move a schema repository to a new physical location or to a different database management system.

Before you begin

Complete the following tasks before moving a schema repository:
  1. Create an empty database in the new location using your vendor tool.
  2. Instruct all users to log off from the databases. New users cannot access the databases while you are moving the schema repository, but users who are currently logged in when the process begins cannot be detected or logged off. Some supported databases provide a tool for logging users off the database. Determine whether your database vendor has such a tool.
  3. Back up all HCL Compass databases, even if you are moving only one schema repository or one user database. Backups prevent data loss due to unforeseen circumstances, such as network failure, that might occur during the move.

About this task

When you move a schema repository by using vendor database tools, HCL Compass loses the connection to the schema repository. Use the Maintenance Tool to update the connection with information about the new physical location of the schema repository.

Super User privileges are required to perform this task.

Procedure

  1. Start the Maintenance Tool.
  2. In the Existing Connections window, select the connection to move or update, and click Schema Repository > Update Properties > Selected Connection.
  3. Enter your logon name and password, and click Next.
  4. Enter the schema repository properties that you want to update. Select a database vendor and enter the required vendor database properties. The required properties are different for each database vendor. For more information, see Vendor database properties.
  5. Click Next. When the connection is updated, click Done and Exit.
