Creating a sample database

When you create a schema repository, you can also create a sample user database. A sample user database is a working user database that provides 40 sample defect records of user information, plus sample queries and reports. You can use a sample user database to learn how the HCL Compass software works and to help train users.

Before you begin

You must create an empty database container with tools provided by the database vendor before you create a HCL Compass database.

Procedure

  1. Start the Maintenance Tool. Then click Schema Repository > Create.
  2. In the Existing Connections pane, enter a name for the schema repository connection in the highlighted item and press Enter.
Tip: You can rename the default connection later.
  3. In the Schema Repository Properties area, select a database vendor and enter the required properties. The properties for each database are different.
  4. Click Next.
  5. In the Data Code Page window, select the data code page to use with the new schema repository. You can choose any data code page that is supported by HCL Compass. The default data code page is associated with the language of the operating system on which the Maintenance Tool is running, if the code page is supported. If the code page is not supported, the default is ASCII.
  6. Click Create sample database.
  7. Select a predefined schema to use for the sample database.
  8. Enter a database name of five bytes or less. The default name is SAMPL.
  9. Enter a description of the sample database.
  10. Click Next.
  11. In the Sample User Database Properties area, select the database vendor for the sample user database and enter the required database properties.
  12. Click Finish.

Results

The HCL Compass data code page value for the new schema repository and the associated user databases is verified to ensure compatibility with the vendor database character set.
