(Developer) Installing Rational Application Developer Version 9.5.0.2 or a later 9.5 fix pack

Install Version 9.5.0.2 to support WebSphere Application Server V8.5.5 and the IBM SDK, Java Technology Edition, Version 8.

Before you begin

  • Ensure that your environment meets the minimum requirements before you upgrade to Rational Application Developer Version 9.5. For more information, see the Before you begin section of Updating a WebSphere Commerce Developer environment to use Java 8
  • Ensure that you install the copy of that is bundled with WebSphere Commerce. Obtaining separately results in a trial version that requires the purchase of a license.

Procedure

  1. Log in to Passport Advantage and search for part number CRY57ML.
  2. Download the parts that are included in the eAssembly.
  3. Download Fix Pack 9.5.0.2 or a later Version 9.5 fix pack.
  4. Extract the packages that you downloaded.
  5. Start Installation Manager.
  6. Click File > Preferences, and then select Repositories.
  7. Click Add repository....
  8. Click Browse and add the repository files from the packages that you extracted.
    For example,
    • C:\RAD_WS_9.5_1\RAD\disk1\diskTag.inf
    • C:\rad9502ifix002.update.disk1\diskTag.inf
  9. Select the Search service repositories during installation and updates option. This option finds newer maintenance packages that you can choose to install at the same time.
  10. Click OK to accept the changes and close Preferences.
  11. Click Install.
  12. Click Check for Other Versions, Fixes, and Extensions.
  13. Select IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Version 9.5.0.2 (or a later 9.5.0.x package) and click Next to continue.

    You might be prompted with a Validation Results panel that warns you to stop any applications that are running. Stop any applications and then click Next.

  14. Accept the license agreement and click Next.
  15. Specify a Shared resource directory or keep the default directory and then click Next.
    Note: If you previously installed Rational Application Developer through Installation Manager, the existing Shared resource directory is used and you cannot change the path. Continue to the next step.
  16. Select Create a new package group and update the Installation directory.
    Do not accept the default installation path. Specify a short directory name, such as C:\IBM\SDP95. The default installation path is too long for configuration with .
    Note: Do not specify a directory that includes whitespace, periods ("."), or dollar signs ("$"). The location where you install to is referred to as the RAD_installdir in later steps.
  17. Select the 32-bit or 64-bit architecture based on your operating system and then click Next.
  18. Select other languages as needed and then click Next.
    The Features panel is displayed.
  19. Ensure that the following tools are selected. You can also select other tools as needed.
    • Web and Mobile developer tools
      • AJAX, Dojo, and HTML
      • Dojo Toolkit libraries
      • JSP and servlet
    • Enterprise developer tools
      • Data access
        Note: Not selected by default. Ensure that you select the Data access option.
      • Java EE and web services
      • SIP
      • OSGi Application
      • XML
        Note: Not selected by default. Ensure that you select the XML option.
    • Code quality tools
      • Code Analysis
      • Line level code coverage
      • Test and performance tools
    • Server tools
      • WebSphere Application Server classic 8.5
        • Development tools
  20. After you selected the needed features, click Next. The Summary panel is displayed.
  21. Click Install.
    You might encounter a warning that Installation Manage cannot find disk 2. You can safely continue. When you are prompted to enter disk 2, specify the second folder.
    For example, C:\RAD_WS_9.5_2\RAD\disk2.
  22. In your Windows settings, update the JAVA_HOME system environment variable to include the path to where you installed Rational Application Developer.
    For example,
    JAVA_HOME=C:\IBM\SDP95
