Installing WebSphere Commerce Developer
Depending on the size of your organization, there are two options available to you for installing WebSphere Commerce Developer. In a large development organization, you might want to create a common central repository so that you can set up and manage multiple identical development environments. If this option is not appropriate for your organization, you can instead install WebSphere Commerce Developer on each individual workstation.

The Enterprise Deployment Utility is used to quickly replicate a custom WebSphere Commerce development environment onto multiple workstations.

The Enterprise Deployment Utility supports replication of the WebSphere Commerce Development environment provided by IBM. However, an enterprise environment might require a WebSphere Commerce Development environment with particular customizations. The Enterprise Deployment Utility provides extension points that you can leverage to include additional custom deployment steps. Deploying WebSphere Commerce customizations
The WebSphere Commerce Build and Deployment tool facilitates the automation of the WebSphere Commerce customization build and deployment processes. It serves as a starting point for achieving an automated and repeatable build and deployment of WebSphere Commerce customizations. It also provides a robust customization framework to extend the WebSphere Commerce Build and Deployment tool based on project needs.
Creating a toolkit deployment package
The Build and Deployment tool consists of a build process, a server deployment process, and a toolkit deployment process. The build process extracts the WebSphere Commerce customization source code from a software configuration management (SCM) system, compiles the source code, and creates deployment packages to deploy the customization. The toolkit deployment process then loads the customized data into the database, and the customized projects into the WebSphere Commerce Developer workspace.

You can now configure the customized Enterprise Deployment Utility to use a toolkit deployment package created by the Build and Deployment tool to deploy your WebSphere Commerce customization.

Procedure

Create a new directory called WCDE_installdir/Enterprise Deployment/wcbd_assets and copy the toolkit deployment package zip file that you built using the Build and Deployment tool to this directory.
Open WCDE_installdir/Enterprise Deployment/custom/properties/custom.properties with a text editor.
Set the properties according to the comments in the file.
Save the file and exit.

Results

You can now use the customized Enterprise Deployment Utility to replicate the WebSphere Commerce development environment with your WebSphere Commerce customization. In practice, you should periodically update the Enterprise Deployment utility with a new toolkit deployment package using the same steps above, so that the replicated development environment will have the latest code.
