Operating system requirements

Make sure that the machines on which you install HCL Discover meet the operating system requirements documented here.

Operating system requirements for the Report server

The time zone for the Windows machine hosting the HCL Discover Report Server must be configured to match the HCL Discover system time zone.

Operating system requirements for running the HCL Discover installer

One of the following operating systems must be installed prior to running the installer:
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2022 (64-bit) (from version 12.1.8)
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2019 (64-bit) (from version 12.1.0.3)
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016 (64-bit)
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 (64-bit)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux™ (RHEL) version 8 and 9
If the system has more than 32 GB of RAM, then you must install an Enterprise version of one of the supported operating system versions.

For optimal performance, HCL Discover software should be installed on dedicated hardware. HCL Discover does provide limited support for virtual machine (VM) environments.

Database requirements

The following databases are supported. Both Standard and Enterprise, 32-bit or 64-bit versions are supported.
  • SQL Server 2022
  • SQL Server 2019
  • SQL Server 2017
  • SQL Server 2016
  • SQL Server 2014
  • SQL Server 2012

.NET Framework requirements

HCL Discover requires that Microsoft .NET Framework be installed on all HCL Discover servers, including the SQL Server system.
  • General requirements
    • HCL Discover supports .NET Framework V 4.5
  • Database Server
    • The following .NET Framework requirements pertain to specific versions of SQL Server:
      • SQL Server 2012: V.35
  • Windows Server
    Note: The default Windows Server installation also installs the .NET Framework. Please verify that the installed version is one of the versions supported by HCL Discover.

    When you configure Windows Server, you must register .Net Framework with IIS to enable it to accept the HCL Discover.

Role Services requirements for IIS on Windows Server

On a Windows Server system, please verify that the following Role Services have been enabled for IIS through the operating system:
  • Static Content
  • Default Document
  • ASP.NET
  • .NET Extensibility
  • ISAPI Extensions
  • ISAPI Filters
  • IIS Management Console

Supported browsers

On each desktop that will access the HCL Discover Portal, one of the following Web browser versions must be installed:
  • Mozilla Firefox 117.0.1 (64-bit) or later
  • Google Chrome 116.0.5845.188 (official build) (64-bit) or later

For the supported browsers, the zoom level supported for Discover application is 90%.

HCL Discover Portal does not support access from mobile browsers.

Keeping the operating system and software add-ons up to date

We recommend that you install the latest software patches for all required software prior to starting the installation.
