Performance

These statements and parameters can affect the performance of HCL Workload Automation for Z.

Table 1. Performance-related parameters
Statement Parameters Description
AUDIT Specifies how much audit information is produced.
ALERTS LATEOPER Use only when deadlines are accurate.
AUTHDEF SUBRESOURCES Specifies subresources that you want to check.
BATCHOPT SMOOTHSUBDELAY Based on this setting, the controller adds a random delay in the submission of operations that are neither urgent, nor belonging to a critical path.
SMOOTHSUBCONFLEVEL Calculates the submission delay added by SMOOTHSUBDELAY. Used to prevent that the delay causes an operation submission too close to its latest start time.
EWTROPTS STEPEVENTS Specifies when HCL Workload Automation for Z creates events for ending job-steps.
PRINTEVENTS Specifies if HCL Workload Automation for Z creates events for print tasks (type 4).
HOLDJOB Specifies if HCL Workload Automation for Z holds and releases jobs on the JES queue.
EWWAIT Specifies the time between reads of a submit/release data set.
JTOPTS BACKUP Specifies if a CP backup is performed automatically and how many records are written to the JT log between backups.
EVELIM Specifies how often statistics messages related to the STATMSG keyword are issued.
MAXJSFILE Specifies if a JS backup is performed automatically and how large the JCL repository file grows before HCL Workload Automation for Z performs a backup.
QUEUELEN Specifies the number of operations HCL Workload Automation for Z starts when the workstation analyzer subtask gets the CP lock.
SMOOTHSUBMISSION Activates the Smooth Submission feature, which prioritizes the submission of operations that are urgent (with priority 9) or belong to a critical path.
SMOOTHSUBRATE Determines the average number of operations to be submitted, in 1 minute, on computer automatic workstations, with the exception of the operations that are urgent (with priority 9).
SUBRATECRITNET Applies the value set for SMOOTHSUBRATE to the operations belonging to the whole critical network.
STATIM Specifies when statistics messages are issued.
STATMSG Determines if HCL Workload Automation for Z issues performance statistics for the current plan, event manager, general service, and WSA task.
TRACK Determines which jobs HCL Workload Automation for Z tracks.
OPCOPTS RCLEANUP Specifies if the restart and cleanup function is active. Performance is affected when the user chooses to archive the user sysouts for the majority of the operations.
VARSUB Determines which jobs are scanned for JCL variables and directives.

The amount of data written to the job-tracking log affects how often HCL Workload Automation for Z performs a current plan backup. Keep this in mind when specifying a value for the BACKUP keyword of JTOPTS.
