Creating label types

Create a label type for immediate or future use within a VOB.

About this task

After creating a label type in a VOB, you can attach labels of that type to versions of that VOB's elements, using the Apply Label wizard or the Apply Label window.

Procedure

To create a label type:
  1. Access the Create Label Type window using one of the following methods:
    • From the Label Type node in the ClearTeam Navigator
      1. Using the ClearTeam Navigator view, navigate to the VOB where you want to create the label type.
      2. Click the (+) next to the VOB name to expand the VOB node. The Branch Types and Label Types nodes are displayed.
      3. Right-click the Label Types node and select Create Label Type. The Create Label Type window opens.
    • From the Apply Label wizard
      1. Start the Apply Label wizard.
      2. On the Apply label wizard - select label type page, click Create Label Type.... The Create Label Type window opens.
  2. In the Label Type field, specify a name for the label type.
  3. Verify that the VOB displayed in In VOB is correct. If it is not, select the correct one from the list.
  4. Optionally, you can enter a description of the new label type in the Comment field.
  5. Select the Create a global label type option if you want to create a label type that can be used as a global resource by client VOBs in the administrative VOB hierarchy. Unset the Create a global label type option to create an ordinary label type that can be used only in the current VOB.
  6. If you set Create a global label type, you can also select the Acquire locally defined label types of the same name option to check for all eclipsing label types in client VOBs and convert them to local copies of the new global label type.
  7. Select the Allow use of this label type even when it is remotely mastered option if you want to create (apply) or delete labels of this type at other replicas in the VOB family.
  8. Choose one of the following options in the This label may be applied section.
    • once per element: the label can only be applied to one version of an element
    • once per branch: the label can only be applied to one version on each branch of an element
  9. Click OK.

What to do next

The new label type is created in the VOB. You can use the VersionVault Navigator view or the ClearTeam Details view to see the label types that exist in a VOB. Note that obsolete, locked, and reserved (CHECKEDOUT and LATEST, for example) label types are not displayed.
