  - Introduction
    HCL VersionVault MultiSite adds a powerful capability to HCL VersionVault. With MultiSite, developers at different locations can use the same HCL VersionVault versioned object base (VOB). For HCL VersionVault, each location (site) has its own copy (replica) of the VOB. At any time, changes made in one replica can be sent in update packets to other replicas. You can manage replicas by using the command-line tools.

        Before you create a new VOB replica, you must perform these steps at the original site.
      - Export phase
        The export phase of the replica creation process occurs at the original site. This phase consists of running the export form of the mkreplica command, taking a backup of the original VOB (specifically including the fact that the VOB has now been replicated), and verifying that the replica-related changes occurred.
      - Transport phase
        In the transport phase, which takes place at the original site, you send the replica-creation packet to the new site.
      - Import phase
        The import phase of the replica creation process occurs at the new replica's site. It consists of verifying the packet's arrival using the lspacket command, creating the replica using the import form of the mkreplica command, deleting the replica creation packet if necessary, and setting the replica properties such as identities and permissions, self-mastership, and feature level.

In the transport phase, which takes place at the original site, you send the replica-creation packet to the new site.

About this task

Note that this process differs, depending on how you invoked the mkreplica command during the Export phase:

If you specified the –fship option of the mkreplica command during the Export phase, the packet was shipped automatically. You need not take any further action to complete the transport phase. Proceed directly to the Import phase of the replica creation process.
If you specified the –ship option of the mkreplica command during the Export phase, you must use the shipping_server command to ship the replica-creation packet to the new site, as described below.

Procedure

To manually ship a replica-creation packet stored in the shipping server, use the shipping_server command:

MINUTEMAN% /opt/hcl/ccm/versionvault/etc/shipping_server –poll

What to do next

Note: If you wrote the packet to a file, you must transport the file to the new site.

You should now proceed to the Import phase of the replica creation process.
