Workflow for setting up your environment for disconnected use

The set up environment task is the first task of the disconnected use workflow, and it precedes the update view task.

You can use one of several hardware configurations to work in a snapshot view that is disconnected from the network.

Hardware configuration: View on a laptop

A laptop video screen on a VersionVault host displays by means of the network in a view a hierarchy of versions in VOBs.

You can create and use the view on a laptop computer that connects to the network, as long as the laptop runs the same operating system as the one on which the view was created. When you disconnect the laptop from the network, you can continue to work with the files in your view.

Hardware configuration: View on a removable storage device

A VersionVault host or a remote computer can be connected to a removable storage device that stores the view.

You can create and use the view on a removable storage device such as an external hard drive or some other device (such as a Jaz™ drive) that provides satisfactory read/write performance, as long as the remote computer runs the same operating system as the one on which the view was created.

Hardware configuration: Copying the view

Shown are a VersionVault host with a view, a removable storage device with a view, and a remote computer with a view. Arrows that show the view copy operation are between the VersionVault host and the removable storage device and the removable storage device and the remote computer.

You can copy the view from an HCL VersionVault host to a temporary, removable storage device, which might not provide satisfactory read/write performance. Then you can copy the view from the storage device to a remote computer that runs the same operating system as the one on which the view was created.
