About comparing counts for mailings and cells

The Message Overview report provides total counts for message delivery, views, and link clicks for the mailing instance and for each cell that you used to select mailing recipients. The sum of the counts for the individual cells may not be the same as the corresponding totals for the mailing instance. This can happen when mailing recipients belong to two cells.

For example, in the recipient list for the mailing you can select a cell for all females and another cell for all people under age 50. A 30 year old female recipient appears in the counts for both cells, but she appears only once in the totals for the mailing instance and receives only one email message.

Because Deliver usually sends one email per address, the total number of messages reported as sent for the mailing as a whole can appear to be less than the sum of the total messages sent for the two cells that you defined in the mailing.
