Sametime family of products

Describes the functionality of each Sametime® product and the servers or services required for each product.

Sametime products include Sametime Communicate, Sametime Conference, Sametime Complete (Conference and Communicate together), and Sametime Unified Telephony. The following tables provide a functional description of Sametime products, and the Sametime servers associated with each product.

Sametime Communicate

Sametime Communicate gives you one-to-one presence and chat, and one-to-one calling.

Supports the following clients:
  • Standalone rich client
  • Embedded rich client in IBM® Notes®, IBM Connections, IBM WebSphere® Portal, MS Office, MS SharePoint
  • Browser-based clients
  • Mobile clients for popular devices
Mobile instant messaging supports the following A/V features:
  • Click to Call Video (one-to-one calls only)
  • Click to Call Audio (one-to-one calls only)
  • VoIP calls using SIP-based calling (outgoing only)
  • Sametime Unified Telephony calls using VoIP (outgoing only)
  • Audio only on phone devices (iOS and Android phones)
  • Check system requirements for the latest iOS and Android versions supported.
Configurable features include but are not limited to:
  • One-to-one video and voice chat in rich clients and mobile devices (not in browser)
  • Multi-way chat

Sametime Conference

Sametime Conference gives you continuous presence video and multi-way calling.

Configurable features include but are not limited to:
  • Browser-based meetings
  • Multi-user video and multi-way calling using a web browser
  • One-to-one and group chat inside the meeting
  • SIP trunking
  • VOIP in browser with dial in and dial out
  • External users from outside the enterprise can attend meetings
  • Mobile meetings
  • APIs
  • TCSPI to connect to third-party audio and video bridge
  • Video Conference Widget for IBM Connections
  • Meeting Room Widget for IBM Connections

The Sametime Conference license only allows a browser as a client.

Sametime Conference can be deployed without Sametime Communicate

Sametime Complete is required if you want to use Sametime Meetings with mobile devices and/or rich clients such as the Sametime Connect Client and the Sametime client embedded in the Notes Client. With Sametime Complete, rich client users have multi-way and multi-user video as well as Instant Share allowing users to share their screen without entering a meeting room.

Sametime Unified Telephony

Sametime Communicate is a prerequisite for Sametime Unified Telephony. Sametime Unified Telephony gives you:

  • Voice calls with your unified phone number
  • Personal call routing and device selection, including mobile devices, on the fly
  • Integration with PBX systems
  • Telephony status
  • Automatic geographic awareness
  • Mobile: Sametime Unified Telephony calls using VoIP (outgoing only) on iPhones and Android devices
