Settings that affect nested groups in policy assignments

Certain settings configure how Sametime® considers nested groups when it applies policies and how many levels deep that Sametime searches for the highest weighted group.

The following settings affect the behavior of policies assigned to nested groups.

Table 1. Settings that affect nested groups in policy assignmentsThe following table lists the names of configurable settings as well as a description of their function, possible values for entry, and the default value.

Setting Description Possible Values
Maximum Nested Group Depth Specifies the number of levels of nested groups Sametime searches
Note: This setting only applies to Sametime System Console and Sametime Meeting Server policy searches. To change the maximum nested group depth of the Community Server, edit the DIR_SEARCH_LEVEL_LIMIT parameter of the Sametime Community Server sametime.ini file.
-1 : Sametime searches an infinite number of levels of nested groups

0 : Applies to direct user assignments only - no group searches are done

1 : Sametime searches within groups, but not nested groups

2 or greater : Sametime searches nested groups up to and including the level specified

The default value is 4.

Policy Cache Timeout Specifies how long the Policy Cache stores policy assignments. This cache reduces the number of database operations required to provide policy information.

For example, if Sametime calculates that Samantha gets Policy A, that information is stored in the cache. The next time that something requests Samantha's policy it can be retrieved from the cache.

Any number of whole minutes

The default value is 30 minutes.

Group Membership Cache Timeout Specifies in minutes how long the Group Membership Cache stores the group membership information. This cache alleviates potential LDAP load issues due to group membership look-ups. You might want to update this timeout to reflect your site's LDAP administration operating procedures. Any number of whole minutes

The default value is 30 minutes.
