A translation protocol is a communication standard used by an instant messaging service to initiate interactive, real-time sessions between users. Use this page to view and edit translation protocols installed with the IBM® Sametime® Gateway Server.

Translation protocols

The following protocols are included with Sametime Gateway Server:
Translation protocol Function
SIP for AOL® Use SIP for AOL for all AOL Instant Messenger™ and AOL clearinghouse community Connections.
SIP for Sametime Gateway Use SIP for Sametime Gateway for Connections to Sametime Gateway versions 7.5 or 7.5.1 communities.
SIP for legacy Sametime Gateway Use SIP for legacy Sametime Gateway for connections to Sametime server versions 7.0 or 6.5.1.
SIP for Lync/OCS Use SIP for Lync/OCS to connect to Office Communications Server / Lync communities.
VP Use VP (Virtual Places) to connect with the local, internal Sametime community only.
XMPP Use XMPP to connect with communities that use XMPP.
