This section describes how to plan for, install, configure, operate, and manage the SafeLinx Server.
Administering
The SafeLinx Administrator administration client is the primary tool for viewing, adding, configuring, and managing HCL SafeLinx resources. Along with the SafeLinx Administrator, you can use the HCL SafeLinx Monitor to view information about packet flow through the SafeLinx Server. You can also use a set of command line tools to perform common SafeLinx Server tasks.
Using the SafeLinx Administrator
SafeLinx Administrator is the console for the administrator to the SafeLinx Server. Review the ways in which SafeLinx Administrator presents information and the ways you can use it to administer the resources.
Navigating the SafeLinx Administrator interface
When you double-click some resources in the Tasks pane, a resulting list of that resource type displays in the Resources pane. For example, when you double-click User in the Tasks pane, a list of users displays in the Resources pane.

  By default, the SafeLinx Administrator communicates with the access manager over an unencrypted connection. If you want the connection between the SafeLinx Administrator and the access manager to use transport layer security (TLS) protocols, add a secure login profile to the SafeLinx Administrator.

    - Resetting columns in the Resources view
      In the Resource view, SafeLinx Administrator displays summary information for a class of resources in a table. If you customized the table by adding or removing columns, or by modifying the order of the columns, and now want to restore the original column settings, you can reset the columns.
    - Adding resources
      Resources are objects or containers for objects. For example, an OU is a resource that contains other resources, such as Connection Managers, users, or mobile devices.
    - Editing resource properties
      The Properties window is a tool through which the user can view and modify the characteristics of a resource. Properties is an option which shows on the menu for every type of resource.
    - Finding resources
      From the SafeLinx Administrator, you can search for resources in your HCL SafeLinx deployment.
    - Viewing users
      You can view and manage all SafeLinx users from the SafeLinx Administrator, including users whose account records exist in external directories.
    - Viewing SafeLinx Server logs
      Message and trace logs are stored in files on the Connection Manager. The account records are stored either in a relational database or in a file on the SafeLinx Server system. For more information about using logs, see the Troubleshooting Guide.
  - Monitoring packet flow
    Use HCL SafeLinx Monitor to view packet flow through the SafeLinx Server.
  - Starting the SafeLinx Server
    When you first install the SafeLinx Server, you can specify whether you want it to start automatically when the operating system starts. You can also start and stop the SafeLinx Server independently from the operating system from the SafeLinx Administrator, from the command line, or from the service monitor for your operating system.

- Programming reference
  There are several programming considerations of which you might want to take advantage.
- Database schema information
  HCL SafeLinx uses a DB2, Oracle, MySQL, or SQL database to store tables of information about current and past activity of SafeLinx Server sessions. The following tables are created and accessed by using the qualifier name wg for DB2 installations.

  Here are step-by-step instructions that serve as an example of how to install and configure HCL SafeLinx for Nomad on MySQL on Linux.

Navigating the SafeLinx Administrator interface

When you double-click some resources in the Tasks pane, a resulting list of that resource type displays in the Resources pane. For example, when you double-click User in the Tasks pane, a list of users displays in the Resources pane.

Procedure

When you see a list of resources in the Resources pane, you can run actions on any of the resources in the list.
Each action opens a new window and places it in front of the existing windows. You can arrange the windows in the Resources pane and bring a window to the front by using the Window menu.
Right-click a resource to display a menu with actions appropriate to that resource. For a SafeLinx Server resource, you can reset log files, start, or shutdown the SafeLinx Server, and add resources such as mobile access services, messaging services, MNC.
For another example, from the menu for a user ID resource, you can run actions such as lock, reset failed login count, or reset password. When resources are listed in the Resources pane, some of these options also display at the end as buttons.
