Installing the SafeLinx Server on Linux

On supported Linux distributions, you run an installation script to install the SafeLinx Server.

Before you begin

Review the planning information.

Verify that the host name of the computer where you want to install the SafeLinx Server is not aliased in the /etc/hosts file to the loopback address.

Procedure

  1. Download the 64-bit Linux version of the SafeLinx Server installation image from the FlexNet Portal.

    For example, download SafeLinx-6.1.*.*-Linux-yyyymmdd-64.

After the download completes, the file linux-gw-61*-yyyymmdd-64.tar.gz is saved to the download directory.
  2. Log in as root on the computer where you want to install the SafeLinx Server.
  3. Extract the downloaded SafeLinx Server image and specify where you want to save the contents of the archive.
After you extract the image, the directory inst.images is created in the location that you specified. The directory contains the SafeLinx Server package file, scripts for installing and uninstalling the software, the Global Security Kit (gskit) and cryptographic libraries, readme files, and release notes.
  4. To start the installation script, from the command line, go to the inst.images directory and then type ./install_wg.
The installation script checks for a compatible version of the DB2 client. If no compatible DB2 client is found, the script checks for the DataDirect Connect for ODBC with the Oracle Wire Protocol driver.
  5. When you are prompted to, specify whether you want to the SafeLinx Server to start automatically when the computer starts. By default the SafeLinx Server starts at system start.
  6. After the installation completes, you can verify that the SafeLinx Server is at the expected version level by typing the following command at the command line: lswg -V |more

What to do next

You are now ready to begin the initial configuration. If you have not already installed the SafeLinx Administrator, install it now, and then open it. For more information about installing the SafeLinx Administrator, see Installing the SafeLinx Administrator on Linux.
