Applying maintenance

You can apply maintenance on the SafeLinx Server and the SafeLinx Administrator. The specific procedure depends on which operating system you use.

Before you begin

You must be logged in as root on Linux servers, and as an administrator on Windows to run the maintenance tasks.

Procedure

  • Windows
    • SafeLinx Server
      • Download the file for the Windows SafeLinx Server. The downloaded installation file name follows the pattern SafeLinxServer_100_builddate_kernelversion.exe, for example, SafeLinxServer_100_2016MMDD_64.exe.
      • This file contains the SafeLinx Server AND the SafeLinx Administrator. The SafeLinx Administrator automatically installs with the SafeLinx Server. If you have the SafeLinx Administrator installed alone on this workstation, remove it before installing an update to the SafeLinx Server. See the section Removing the SafeLinx Administrator for Windows.
      • Double-click the installation file and the installation starts automatically.
      • The lswg -V |more command confirms the SafeLinx Server updated as expected. You might also confirm the software level of the SafeLinx Server in the SafeLinx Administrator on the SafeLinx Server properties on the About page.
  • Linux
    • SafeLinx Server
      • The Linux-based SafeLinx Server must be installed or updated manually.
      • Download the file for the Linux SafeLinx Server. The downloaded file name follows the pattern linux-gw-100-builddate-kernelversion.tar.gz, for example, linux-gw-100-20160616-64.tar.gz. You must use the install_wg script to install this image.
      • To extract the file, issue the following command: gunzip linux-gw-100-builddate-kernelversion.tar.gz, for example, gunzip linux-gw-100-2016MMDD-64.tar.gz
      • To extract the archive, issue the following command: tar -xvf linux-gw-100-builddate-kernelversion.tar, for example, tar -xvf linux-gw-100-2016MMDD-64.tar
      • The archived file sets are within the inst.images directory where you extracted.
      • To run the manual update of the SafeLinx Server change directories to the inst.images directory created during archive extraction.
      • Issue the command ./install_wg

        If the maintenance which you are installing is at the same VRMF (Version, Release, Modification, Fix-Level) as the currently installed SafeLinx Server, that means that you are installing a 1.0.0 release over an older 1.0.0 release. Then in order to get the most recent update installed you must specify the --force flag on the install_wg script. That is, install _wg --force. A message is displayed that an update or maintenance installation will be run.

      • Issue the lswg -V |more command to ensure that the SafeLinx Server was updated as expected. You might also confirm the software level of the SafeLinx Server in the SafeLinx Administrator on the SafeLinx Server properties on the About page.
    • SafeLinx Administrator
      • Download the file for the Linux SafeLinx Administrator. The Downloaded file name follows the pattern wgcfg-100-builddate.rpm, for example, wgcfg-100-20160613.rpm.
      • To update a previously installed version of SafeLinx Administrator, issue the following command: rpm -Uvh --replacefiles --replacepkgs wgcfg-100-2016MMDD.rpm
      • After updating the SafeLinx Administrator, verify the release level by clicking Help > About from the SafeLinx Administrator menu.
