Using the widgets catalog

You can browse and search the widgets catalog for widgets to add to your My Widgets sidebar panel and add community information to widgets in the catalog.

Table 1. Widgets catalog tasks

Descriptions of browsing and searching the widgets catalog, and adding community information to widgets in the catalog

Task Description

Browse the widgets catalog

Important: The Browse widgets catalog action only appears if your administrator has enabled this option for you.

Right-click the My Widgets sidebar panel and click Browse Widgets Catalog.

To browse by catalog view, click All Widgets, By Author, By Category, By Type, or the name of any custom views.

Click widget names to open their catalog documents for more information about them.

Search the widgets catalog

The widgets catalog is searchable if a full-text index for the catalog is created. If so, the widgets catalog shows two places to search:

  • The header bar, used to search for widgets in the catalog
  • The tag cloud section, used to search for widgets with a specific tag in the catalog

Rate, tag, and add comments or questions about a widget

Right-click the My Widgets sidebar panel and click Browse Widgets Catalog and click the name of a widget to open its catalog document. Do any of these:

  • Click a star level in the Rating field.
  • Click the Comments tab, click Add a comment, and type your comment or question.
Tip: Adding community information like this can be useful for both widget users and widget developers.
