Perform a new or upgrade install of one or many Domino® servers.
Preparing for installing and setting up Domino® servers
Installing an HCL Domino® server is the first part of deploying a server. The second part is using the Domino server setup program to configure the server.
Domino® server installation
The first step in deploying a Domino® server is installation, or copying the program files to the system's local drive.
Installing Domino® on Windows™
You can install Domino® on a supported Microsoft™ Windows™ system by following this procedure, or you can perform a silent installation of a local server.

After registering and installing a server, you use the server setup program to obtain a copy of the Domino Directory for the new server and to set up the server to run particular services and tasks -- for example, the HTTP service, the Mail Router, and so on.

  Use this documentation to upgrade the existing Domino® server and subsequently upgrade the Notes® client to a new release. You can also upgrade additional clients such as Domino Administrator and Domino Designer clients and additional features and plug-ins such as the embedded HCL Sametime® client.

Installing Domino® on Windows™

You can install Domino® on a supported Microsoft™ Windows™ system by following this procedure, or you can perform a silent installation of a local server.

Before you begin

Before you install the Domino® server program files on a Windows™ system, do the following:

Temporarily disable any screen savers and turn off any virus-detection software. Make sure that all other applications are closed.
Complete any pending reboot actions.

Procedure

Run the install program. You can directly execute the downloaded .exe file from the My HCL Software portal.
Read the Welcome screen, and click Next.
Read the license agreement, accept the terms, and click Next.
Choose the program directory, and choose whether you are installing partitioned servers. Click Next.
Specify the data directory in which to copy the software. If you are installing a partitioned server, specify a data directory for each partition. You can install up to eight partitioned servers.

Note: For partitions, use the Add button to add each of the data directories to the list. If they are not added to the list they will not be installed.
Enter a user name. The default is NT Authority\LocalService. Note the important information in Enable running Domino as a non-admin user which includes additional procedures you must do, such as setting permissions on an external directory.
Select the server type:
- Domino® Messaging Server -- Installs a Domino® server that provides messaging services. Note that it does NOT include support for application services.
- Domino® Enterprise Server -- Installs a Domino® server that provides both messaging and application services.
- Domino® Custom Enterprise Server - Allows you to select the features you want to install.
  Note: All of the preceding installation types support Domino® partitioned servers.
- Active Directory Password Synchronization - Installs Active Directory Password Sync on AD Domain Controllers only. See Configuring password synchronization for more information.
Review the summary information, and then select Next to begin installing files.
Click Finish to complete the install program.
Choose Start > All Programs > HCL Applications > HCL Domino Server, or use the icons on your Desktop to start the server setup program.
