Distributing software to target Domino servers or deployment groups

Submit a request for AutoUpdate to distribute software downloads directly to a Target Domino server or deployment group.

Once you submit a distribution request, AutoUpdate queues the task and processes it to completion. The software is saved to the Target Domino server operating system under the deploy directory on the server:
  • On Linux: /local/notesdata/domino/deploy
  • On Windows: data\domino\deploy

If you have multiple Domino servers that should be configured the same (such as clustered servers) it is recommended to use a deployment group. For more information, see Creating deployment groups for software distributions.

  2. Select one or more servers from the view and click Schedule Deployment.
  3. In the pop-up dialog, make the following selections:
    • Action: Distribute software only
    • Requested version: Use the drop-down box to select the version to distribute.

Distributing to deployment groups

  2. Select a group from the view, then click Schedule Deployment.

Viewing distribution status

After scheduling for software distribution, you can view the progress in the Distribution Status view.
  1. Open the autoupdate.nsf, then the Distribution Status view.
  2. Locate the server name or deployment group and use the indicated icon to determine its status:
    • Hourglass icon indicates that the distribution is pending.
    • Paperclip icon indicates that the software has been distributed.
    • Red circle indicates that the distribution ended in an error.
Note: If a software distribution ends in error, select the document from the Distribution Status view and click Reset Deployment. Then you can schedule a new distribution if you wish to retry.

Once distributions are complete, the software should be installed manually. After the Domino server has been upgraded to the version of the distributed software, the software will be removed from the Distribution Status view. You can view a record of completed software distributions on the Update history tab of a server document. From there, you can select a history document from the embedded view.
