Installing the ClearTeam Explorer

ClearTeam® Explorer technology provides access to DevOps Code ClearCase® from various network connections, including wide area network (WAN). This technology is available in the ClearTeam Explorer in various forms.

Note: For users on the UNIX platforms, first see Features not supported on the Core ClearCase UNIX platforms.
  • ClearTeam Explorer is a self-contained application that is not integrated with Eclipse and does not depend on any particular development environment. It includes:
    • Viewers that provide access to resources loaded into ClearCase views. They also allow you to browse the contents of remote ClearCase repositories. Examples of viewers are ClearTeam Navigator and ClearTeam Details view.
    • Dialog boxes that implement DevOps Code ClearCase operations such as checkout and checkin
    • Wizards that automate tasks such as joining a UCM project and creating ClearCase views
    • Toolbars and menus that provide access to the dialog boxes and wizards

ClearTeam Explorer is installed using the IBM Installation Manager.

  • ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse, which integrates ClearTeam Explorer with Eclipse. In ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse, all ClearTeam Explorer viewers are available in the ClearCase Explorer perspective. Viewers can be added to other Eclipse perspectives as well. Dialog boxes and wizards are accessible from ClearCase toolbars (which can be added to any Eclipse perspective that supports a Team provider) and also from the Eclipse Team menu. Toolbars can be added to any Eclipse perspective that supports a Team provider.

  • ClearTeam Explorer Extension is a self-contained application that is integrated with DevOps Software Delivery Platform products. It includes:

    • Dialog boxes that implement ClearCase operations such as checkout and checkin
    • Wizards that automate tasks such as joining a UCM project and creating ClearCase views
    • Toolbars and menus that provide access to the dialog boxes and wizards

  • ClearTeam Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 2017, Microsoft Visual Studio 2019, and Microsoft Visual Studio 2022 provide access to DevOps Code ClearCase using a wide area network (WAN). They are used to add support for DevOps Code ClearCase in all views from within the Visual Studio shell.
ClearTeam Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio offers a first-class integration with the Microsoft Visual Studio IDE. The integration:
    • Provides menus and toolbars to complete DevOps Code ClearCase operations such as checkout and checkin.
    • Automates tasks such as joining a UCM project and creating ClearCase views.
    • Enables developers to:
      • Manage their VS.NET solution and project artifacts in DevOps Code ClearCase views.
      • Perform advanced DevOps Code ClearCase search operations with tool windows such as Front Desk, ClearCase Search, and Pending Solution Checkins.
    Notes:
    • Visual Studio 2017 and Visual Studio 2019 always use the ClearTeam Explorer based user interface. Any references in the help to the integration of ClearTeam Explorer and VS.NET through any other DevOps Code ClearCase clients or GUIs are not supported.
    • Visual Studio 2022 uses both ClearTeam Explorer based user interface and ClearCase client GUIs. It supports both WAN and LAN services.

Use Installation Manager to install ClearTeam Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 2017, ClearTeam Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 2019, and ClearTeam Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 2022.
