Installing from an electronic image on your workstation: task overview

About this task

The following are the general steps for installing the product from an electronic installation image:
  1. Ensure that your workstation has sufficient space to store both the files you must download and the extracted installation image.
  2. Download all the required parts for the product image to a temporary directory.
  3. Extract the installation image from the downloaded file and verify that the installation image is complete. For details, see Verifying and extracting electronic images.
  4. Continue with the steps in Installing from an electronic image below.

Installing from an electronic image

About this task

After you are familiar with the general steps of installing an electronic image, have verified your system meets space requirements, and extracted and verified the installation image, use the next procedure to install the downloaded electronic image.

Procedure

  1. Start the installation of the product.
    • If IBM Installation Manager is not detected on your workstation, you must install it to continue. After the installation completes, Installation Manager starts automatically. For details, see Installing Installation Manager on Windows.
    • If Installation Manager is detected on your workstation but a newer version is found, confirm that you want to install it and click OK to proceed. Installation Manager automatically installs the new version, stops, restarts, and resumes.
      Note: To enable Installation Manager to search the predefined HCL update repository locations for Installation Manager, in the Preferences window, on the Repositories page, the Search the linked repositories during installation and updates preference must be selected. This preference is selected by default. Internet access is also required.
  2. To complete the installation, click Install and follow the instructions in the Install wizard.
  3. Configure your license. You must configure the license to ensure that you have continued access to the product.
  4. For Linux™: Increase the number of file handles on your workstation.
