Upgrading HCL Compass

Review the upgrade information and complete optional and required tasks for upgrading HCL Compass.

Important: If you have not already done so, review the information in Planning your upgrade before starting an HCL Compass installation.

Shut down the WebSphere® Application servers for HCL Compass Web servers. Shut down the HCL Compass databases, using the processes specific to each vendor database. Then shut down all other HCL products. This action prevents HCL Compass clients from accessing or updating the databases.

Confirm that your user ID meets the required access privileges for installing the product. Client

To make products available to non-root users, set the umask variable to 0022, before you install Compass on a Linux or UNIX™ system. Client

  1. Log in as root user.
  2. Start a terminal session.
  3. Type umask 0022.

Use the HCL Packaging Utility if you want to install multiple HCL products in the same repository. Client

IBM Packaging Utility You can use the Packaging Utility to perform the following tasks:
  • Generate a new repository for packages
  • Copy packages to a new repository
  • Delete packages that are no longer needed
For best results, before you work with your HCL product, increase the number of file handles available. Client
