Creating a user database

When you create a user database using the Designer, you apply a schema version to the user database. The copy of the applied schema version resides in the user database. The schema version defines the process model and forms for the defect and change tracking system.

Before you begin

Before you create a user database, you must create an empty database container with tools provided by the database vendor.

Procedure

  1. Start the Designer.
  2. In the HCL Compass Schema Repository Explorer view, click the schema repository where you want to create the user database.
  3. Click View > HCL Compass Database Admin. The HCL Compass Database Admin view opens.
  4. In the HCL Compass Database Admin view, click the Create Database button.
The New Database wizard opens and prompts you through the steps to create a new user database.
  5. In the Logical Database Name field, type a name for the database that is between one and five characters long.
  6. Optionally, enter a description of your database in the Comments field.
  7. Specify whether the user database is a production database or a test database. The default setting is Production Database.
  8. Select the vendor to use for the user database and click Next.
  9. Enter the required database properties. These properties are different for each database vendor.
    • If you select Microsoft™ SQL Server as the vendor database, enter the physical database name of one of the empty databases that you created with the database vendor tools.
  10. Click Next.
  11. On the Database Timeout Option page, enter a value (in minutes) in the Timeout and Poll Interval fields. If you do not want the database to time out for idle connections, set both to zero (0). Click Next.
  12. On the Initial Schema Revision page, select a specific version of a schema to associate with the new user database.
  13. Click Finish.
