National language support

HCL Compass provides different levels of support for national languages, depending on which Compass application you use.

Localized support for English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese, including substantial document translation, is provided for all Compass applications. In addition, the Client and Web client provide partially localized support (error messages might not be localized, but the rest of the user interface and much of the documentation is translated) for Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.

HCL Compass configured with a data code page of 65001 (UTF-8) supports data entry for languages that do not require Complex Text Layout (CTL). Data that requires CTL will not display reliably. CTL languages have the following requirements:
  • Bidirectional layout. Examples are Arabic and Hebrew.
  • Context-sensitive display of the characters, where the same character might be displayed differently based on its word order position or surrounding characters, such as in Arabic, Hindi, and Thai languages.

For other languages associated with supported data code pages and locales, data might be entered and displayed using the local character set, but the labels, menus, and text strings that Compass generates remain in English. See Supported data code pages and Locales associated with supported HCL Compass data code pages.
