Dual client installation scenarios

HCL Client Application Access (HCAA) and HCL Notes release 11.0 or later can co-exist on your system. In this case, you can use either Notes® or HCAA. When you open an application and Notes® is not running, the application is opened in HCAA.

The following table describes dual-client installation scenarios, both supported and unsupported. Review these scenarios before you install HCAA.

  • On Mac OS: HCAA and Notes® co-exist and ICAA uses the Notes® data directory and Preferences file.
  • On Windows: You must uninstall Notes® before you install ICAA. ICAA can't co-exist with Notes® 8.5.x or earlier releases. For steps to reuse your Notes® data in HCAA, see Migrating Notes data to HCL Client Application Access (Windows) before you install ICAA.
Notes® 9.x or later without the Notes® Browser Plug-in ICAA HCAA and Notes® co-exist and ICAA uses the Notes® data directory.
Notes® 9.x or later with bundled Notes® Browser Plug-in ICAA The Notes® Browser Plug-in is removed. ICAA and Notes® co-exist and HCAA uses the Notes® data directory.
Stand-alone Notes® Browser Plug-in 9.0.1 FixPack 6 or earlier ICAA The Notes® Browser Plug-in is uninstalled. ICAA reuses the Notes® data directory.
Notes® 9.x or later and ICAA ICAA upgrade ICAA is upgraded and continues to co-exist with Notes®.
Notes® 9.x or later and ICAA Notes® Fix Pack upgrade Notes® is upgraded with the Fix Pack and continues to co-exist with ICAA.

ICAA Notes® 11.x or later
  • On Mac OS, a clean installation of Notes® is supported when ICAA is already installed.
  • On Windows, a clean installation of Notes® is not supported when ICAA is already installed. To use both Notes® and ICAA, uninstall ICAA, install Notes®, then reinstall ICAA.
HCL Notes 11 and HCAA 3.0 HCAA

HCL Notes 11.0.1 and HCAA 3.0 HCAA upgrade or Notes upgrade You can independently upgrade Notes or HCAA. They will continue to share data directory
