Select your recording client type, and if needed configure proxy port and IP.

  1. Select the client you will be using to record traffic to your web service.
    • Browser (for example, if using Swagger)
    • Postman (available only if installed on the machine)
    • SoapUI (available only if installed on the machine)
    • Other local client
    • Remote client (on a different machine, for example a mobile device)
Note: If your server uses HTTPS, you need to add the AppScan SSL root certificate (so that requests sent using AppScan as proxy will be accepted). If it is not yet installed, a pop-up will prompt you to do this. See SSL Certificate For the first three options, AppScan will make the configuration changes automatically. For the last two, follow the next steps.
  2. ("Other" or "Remote" only:) Configure your recording client to use the IP and proxy port shown in the information pane. You can use the port suggested by AppScan, or click Edit to choose a different port.
Tip: It is better to choose the port yourself, as the automatically chosen port may change from session to session. However, you must not specify a port if you will be opening more than one instance of AppScan at the same time; if you need to use more than one instance, configure AppScan to choose the port automatically.
    To choose a different port:
    1. Click Edit, to open the Options dialog.
    2. In the Proxy Port area, deselect the check box, and enter the port number you want to use.
    3. Click Apply, then click OK to return to the wizard.

The port you chose is now shown in the information pane.

  3. ("Remote" only:) If using SSL/TLS, install the AppScan SSL Certificate on your remote client, to avoid security error messages when recording your traffic:
    1. Browse to http://appscan
    2. Click Install AppScan SSL Certificate
  4. The I need to configure additional connectivity settings check box: By default AppScan® uses Internet Explorer proxy settings. Select this check box only if you want AppScan to use a different proxy. This will open an additional step when you click the Next button.
  5. Click Next to continue to the next step of the wizard.
