Creating Users in Active Directory

To create users in Active Directory, complete the following steps:

Procedure

  1. Open the Server Manager utility.
  2. Select All Servers and highlight the required server.
  3. Select Tools > Active Directory Users and Computers.
    The Active Directory Users and Computers dialog opens.
  4. Select Users > New > User.
    The New Object - User dialog opens.
  5. Type appropriate values for the following fields:
    • First name:
    • Last name:
    • User logon name:

    For example, First name: John | Last name: Doe | User logon name: aduser01

  6. Click Next.
  7. Type an appropriate Password and repeat the same for Confirm password.
  8. Ensure that all checkboxes are not selected. If one or many checkboxes are selected, deselect them and click Next.
  9. Click Finish to create the user.
    The new user appears in the list of users and groups.
  10. Double-click the new user (example aduser01).
    The <username> Properties dialog opens.
  11. Select the Member Of tab and click Add.
    The Select Groups dialog opens.
  12. In the Enter the object names to select textarea, type the group name created earlier (see Creating Groups in Active Directory) and click Check Names.
    The group name appears in the textarea. If the group name does not appear, check the spelling, or verify if the group exists or not. For more information, see Creating Groups in Active Directory.
  13. To assign a group to the user, click OK.
  14. Repeat Step 11 to Step 13 add another group named Remote Desktop Users.
    Note: The Remote Desktop Users group is not a group that you created. It exists by default.
  15. Click Apply and click OK.
